• Alpacas mostly inhabit the Andes of Peru, Chile, Bolivia, and Ecuador.
• Although bred for their extremely silky fleece, alpacas are versatile animals. They are easily trained, can carry heavy loads, serve as guard animals and their meat, which has a flavor similar to lamb, can be eaten.
• Alpacas are related to llamas, but there are many differences between the two. Alpacas have straighter ears, softer fleece, and are shorter than llamas.
