FACTS OF INTEREST:

• This puppet is the olive baboon, one of five baboon species. All are native to Africa or the Arab peninsula.
  


• Baboons interact with humans more than any other East African primate. They are extremely adaptable to different habitats, even the suburbs.


• Baboons live in large "troops" of between twenty and eighty individuals. Their strength in numbers protects them from most predators.


• Like humans, baboons are omnivores and eat both plants and animals.


• The ancient Egyptians kept baboons as pets and saw them as important helpers to Thorth, the Egyptian God of measurement and science. They were depicted on the scales that "weighed" the souls of the dead.
